Preschool Chef and Classroom Assistant

$16-$18 per hour, commensurate with experience

Do you love to work with food and with children? Are you driven, motivated and fast on your feet? Are you detail-oriented? We are seeking a Preschool Chef and Classroom Assistant with a high degree of professionalism to manage our small commercial kitchen at Stoney Creek Montessori School. This position could be perfect if you’re a parent looking for a fun and fast-paced job with a somewhat flexible schedule. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Prepare healthy meals and snacks for our students with a high degree of attention to food intolerance and allergies
  • Follow all food health and safety guidelines and requirements
  • Maintain food preparation tools, including cleaning and disinfecting instruments and equipment before and after use
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all surfaces in the commercial kitchen in accordance with public health standards
  • Maintain inventory of kitchen supplies and rotation of ingredients to ensure the availability of the freshest ingredients.
  • Support our Montessori classrooms for 1-2 hours a day
  • Support site maintenance, when required

The ideal candidate will

  • A love of cooking healthy meals 
  • A love of working with children 
  • A current Ontario Food Handler’s certificate (or willingness to obtain immediately) 
  • Demonstrable experience with cooking (bonus if it’s in a professional capacity)
  • Knowledge of the latest food health and safety guidelines 
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to work well independently, yet as part of a dynamic team 
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • High energy and a can-do attitude
  • Available between the hours of 8.30 am and 5.30 pm for 6-8 hour shifts
  • Two professional references, (ideally from a food handling or childcare setting) and one personal reference
